Ministerial Recorder

Under direct supervision of the Assistant Judge, assist Municipal Court with case flow management by serving as the first contact between the accused (in custody) and a judicial officer. This contact provides the opportunity for the accused to be informed of his/her rights, nature of his/her charge(s) and possible penalties involved. Assist with the orderly case flow management including, but not limited to: conducting bond hearings (arraignments), review and grant search warrants, research, explain, and apply laws, rules and regulations. Review submitted complaints, determine sufficient probable cause, generate, and sign arrest warrants. This requires knowledge of the South Carolina criminal statues, as well as law enforcement procedure. Determine the conditions, which if met, will allow the defendant’s release from custody. Inform the defendants of his/her rights and any sentence which may be imposed, in a manner which makes the information clearly understandable. Create and modify cases in the Court’s case management system and completing all required paperwork. Responsible for daily accountability of defendants in jail ensuring proper processing of all defendants. Performs general administrative duties including data entry, typing, filing, etc. Provides On-Call coverage for the Town of Central. Requires successful completion of the Judicial Orientation Course conducted by S. C. Court Administration, passing a certification test and attending the required annual training as mandated by the S. C. Supreme Court.  Part-time on call weekends.  Pay $450.00 per weekend.  Please see application link at the bottom of the page.

Town Attorney

The Town of Central is accepting applications for a part-time town attorney In this position you will be responsible for being available at least one day per month for pretrial hearings. Also expected to provide the court with notes of dispositions agreed upon during pretrial hearings within 2 days following pretrial hearings, available at least one week per quarter to schedule jury trials, as needed.  Available as needed by the police department to prosecute non-jury matters. The attorney will prosecute all cases on the jury docket for Central Municipal Court.  Will work  closely with the police department and Clerk of Court to schedule hearings and other meetings to encourage the efficient disposition of cases. The town attorney will handle all legal matters concerning the town. Will be expected to respond to queries from the Court within a 24 hour period. Candidate must be duly licensed by the SC Bar to practice in SC Courts and prosecutorial or criminal defense experience is preferred. Communication skills are strongly preferred. Street Department

The Town of Central is accepting applications for a full-time position in the Street Department. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Must have a SC Driver License but prefer CDL or be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months.  Must pass a physical and drug test to be considered.
