Police Chief, Town of Central

Position Category: Police

 

Position hours: Full-time position, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., with work on nights and weekends

Job duties:

  • Manages, directs and coordinates the activities and operations of the police department and exercises responsibility for enforcement of state and local laws relating to public safety for population of 5123 with a small University in Town Limits and a large University in close proximity of the town
  • Performs administrative duties; prepares and presents budget estimates; controls expenditures; drafts rules, regulations and procedures; conducts investigations; and performs other related tasks
  • Qualifications:
  • Preferred Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university with a major in criminal justice, police administration, public administration or related field and five years of experience in upper level police management
  • Desired master's degree in criminal justice, public administration or related field and other technical training such as the FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute or equivalent
  • Must live inside Town limits of Central
  • Pay info: $48,000 – $51,000 annually

 Job duties:

  • Responds to emergency police situations
  • Drives or walks to observe illegal or suspicious activities
  • Performs community-oriented proactive law enforcement work involving a variety of general or support duty assignments

  • Must be 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid SC driver's license
  • Certification required
  • Pay info: $38,220- $40,404 annually with an excellent benefit package
